The 17-day Diet

This popular diet was created by Californian Dr Michael Moreno. It has been reported that a weight loss of 10-12 pounds is possible during the first cycle of 17 days. The diet basically restricts the intake of 'bad' carbs initially and then reintroduces 'good' carbs gradually back into the eating plan.


There are three cycles that each last 17 days. This is reported as preventing the boredom that often sets in with a diet after 2 weeks, and changing the menu and exercise can help the body burn more calories and fat.

lose weight and burn fatCycle 1 - Accelerate - this is the most restrictive stage, allowing for 1,200 calories a day and eliminating 'bad' carbs. This cycle is supposed to discourage fat storage, encourage rapid weight-loss and is claimed to be cleansing and fat burning.

Cycle 2 - Activate - this second stage resets the body's metabolism, allowing 200 more calories with the addition of two servings of 'healthy' carbs.

Cycle 3 - Achieve - the third stage increases the calorie allowance, and includes snacks and one serving of alcohol. This cycle is supposed to help develop good eating habits.

Cycle 4 - Arrive - this final stage is when you reach your goal weight, and are maintaining it. An allowance is introduced to allow treats or favourites at the weekend.

How does the diet work?


The diet is supposed to adjust your body metabolically, so that you continue to burn fat throughout the whole programme. You receive prepared meals weekly, delivered to your home.

What foods does the diet suggest?

Breakfast

  • Breakfast omelette or
  • Mixed berry crepe or
  • Scrambled egg whites with grapefruit and green tea

Lunch

  • Shrimp and chicken gumbo or
  • Grilled chicken caesar salad, whole wheat toast, fresh fruit, green tea or
  • Chicken salad, brown rice, sugar-free fruit-flavored yogurt or
  • Green salad with tuna and balsamic vinegar and olive oil

Dinner

  • Beef bourguignon or
  • Pork tenderloin with olive tapenade or
  • Fish paella or
  • Grilled salmon with steamed vegetables

Main ingredients of diet : chicken and turkey breast, eggs, seafood, yogurt, grapefruit, berries, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, asparagus, broccoli, brussels sprouts,green tea.
